This is unacceptable. Don’t waste my time if you don’t have money to tip. Go to a fast food joint or cook at home. For $30 you can get a decent meal at the grocery store. I gave you superb service, and had you not wanting for anything. Don’t order an app, desert and a special drink if you have no money to tip, either. I should make a video about all this… #rant #serverlife @server_life
Okay, I don’t know how it works in America with your tipping and shit but you don’t know if this person had something wrong. Maybe they had a shitty day and had just enough money left and decided to go to their favourite restaurant. There are worse things to happen than not getting a good enough tip. People are dying, there are wars happening, there is so much wrong but you, you are complaining about a stranger not giving you enough money. Don’t be a dick. Think of others for once.
“I don’t know how it works in America with your tipping and shit…”
That’s pretty obvious. Try googling it before adding your tired excuses to the discussion, because you’ll find out that tips are required for a server to be able to survive. They are not “complaining because a stranger isn’t giving them enough money.” They are complaining because without tips, a full time server in the states would make eighty dollars a week. I don’t know if that’s livable anywhere else in the world (actually I can make a wild guess and say no it’s not, because this isn’t the nineteenth century), but here in the States, four thousand dollars a year is well below poverty line. The person paying for this obviously knew, and if they had just enough money left for dinner, they shouldn’t have ordered so much food that they couldn’t tip.
Also can I just point out the irony of you telling this server to think of others and not be a dick when you won’t take the time to think about why this might be a big deal to him? Because you’re literally telling him that he shouldn’t complain about not getting paid a livable wage because someone who is expected to tip by both him and the federal government has refused to do so. I get that you don’t know how it works here, but why exactly did you think that meant your input was necessary?
Exactly. When you are making less than $3 an hour you rely on your tips to make up the difference. That’s why even a tip that is only 10% is disliked. Ideally this tip should have been at least $4, but instead this server only got a quarter of what they could reasonably expect. With a $1 tip it would cost more to come into work than what you would walk out with at the end of the day. People are expected to live within their means and that is why this is a problem. If this customer had simply ordered a soda instead of their fancy drink they would have had enough money to properly tip their server.
